I think this is a bad idea

I cringed when I read this. What a stupid dumb idea way to subvert the Constitution. If they want to change the electorial college then fine, but go through the proper channels and amend the Constitution to do it. Don’t backdoor the thing.

Google, Their Logo, and Memorial Day

I couldn’t sleep this morning so I decided to read some news on my all-time favorite news site.  While there, I saw a link to an article about Google and their logo.  Knowing that Google has a history of being selective about the holidays they choose to honor, I decided to read it.

Here is a link to the article where an individual sponsored a contest to help Google develop a logo for Memorial Day.  Of all of them, I think I like this one.

This is an update to this article from a few years ago where I mention the fact that Google didn’t change their logo for Memorial Day

Politics or Church and Free Speech

I debated where to put this (politics or church) but in the end, I decided on politics (I’ll try and reserve the church category for items related to my church).

Before I go on, I want to be clear by stating that I don’t know anything about what the church mentioned in the article believes.  They could be way out in left field for all I know.  I’m purely posting on their current situation.

Spirit One Christian Center has come under attack by the IRS.  The IRS claims they are involved in political activities.  The church says they are simply speaking out on a moral issue of the day.  That moral issue happens to be abortion.  And Wichita, where the church is located, happens to be home to a notorious abortionist…George Tiller (for more information on him check out Operation Rescue and this WND article ).

Based on what I have read in this article ,  I happen to think the IRS is way out of line.  Someone there has decided this church needs to be silenced.  This is clearly a violation of the First Amendment (freedom of speech and freedom of religion) if I have ever seen it.  This is the type of thing the 1st Amendment was made to protect….not hideous art work or pornography.  The church has a clear right to speak out on the issue (they do have a clear right but they also have a higher duty to God and MUST speak out on the issue).

Let’s pray for our brothers and sisters as they are under attack by the IRS.

This is interesting

I couldn’t figure out whether or not to put this under church or politics…it ended up under politics.

The Houston Chronicle has an article about Southern Baptists, immigration, and amnesty.

The Hispanic Baptist Convention, an arm of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, plans to unveil at its convention in Austin today a national program to aid immigrants with obtaining citizenship, legal residency and other immigration problems.

Through the program Immigrant Services and Aid Center, the Baptist General Convention of Texas will join with Buckner International, a Christian social welfare organization, to offer accredited training and other resources to churches around the country to assist immigrants.

The program won’t be exclusive to Baptist congregations.

“We can’t wait until everything is figured out by the government,” Paynter said.

The decision to start the program, already under way in Texas, was made after the Baptist General Convention of Texas approved a resolution acknowledging documented and undocumented immigrants are members of Baptist congregations. The convention is made up of about 5,700 congregations with about 2.2 million members.

In the same resolution, congregations affirmed the view of the Hispanic Baptist Convention that encouraged in its own resolution a few months earlier “the adoption of new legislation that unshackles the immigrant.”

I don’t quite know what to think of this. I am conservative. I am christian. I think I have a moral obligation to help those less fortunate. However, that doesn’t mean they need free access to the US. I don’t support amnesty. I’m simply for enforcement of laws currently on the books….if we find someone here illegally, follow the laws that Congress has passed and the President has signed into law. In most cases, I think this would mean simply deporting them (yes, everyone we find). Pretty easy solution, don’t you think?

The President or Congress?

I was reading a story on Fox News today when I noticed several polls: one was dealing with President Bush’s approval rating and one was dealing with Congress’ approval rating. The “traditional” media likes to put out there that the country doesn’t like Pres. Bush. But…look at these polls and decide for yourself. Yes, more people dislike Pres. Bush than the congress; however, it is only 5%. 5% is probably well within the margin of error for these polls.

What do you guys think?

[Update 2012-12-25 22:24:54] The poll links had gone stale and I couldn’t be bothered to find them again.  I’ve removed the links as links.  But, here they are for posterity:

How to Prevent Future VT-type attacks

I think the solution to prevent future VT-style murders in the future is more guns.  Anyone with a concealed carry permit should be allowed to exercise their rights on campus.  The faculty of all universities should be sent to training and carry concealed weapons.  How would this help?  Currently everyone knows schools are gun free zones.  This guy could know real fast if there were campus police in the building or not.  He then chained the doors to keep people out.  No police…no guns.  Let’s think about this a bit more:

The best case is that the criminal would know others have guns and decide not to go on the rampage.  Would he think twice if he knew that there was a chance that somewhere in that building someone had a gun and could take him down?  Possibly.

The worst case is that the criminal go ahead and decide to commit the crime.  But then when he chained the doors, there would have been people in the bulding with guns who could have taken him down after he started.  This would have prevented the large number of deaths.

Criminals are always going to get guns (if they can’t buy them from a gun store, they’ll have someone else go get it or buy it from the trunk of someone’s car).  Criminals are going to break the law (he carried the guns onto campus…a known gun free  zone.  THEN, he went on and murdered 34 people).  What better way to prevent things like this in the future?

[Update 08-14-2007 07:52:09] I have a new post with a link to a news story where a student is proposing the same thing.

[Update 2012-12-26 12:48:32] The link to the new post was wrong.  I updated it.

Al Gore — What a hypocrite!

I was reading WorldNetDaily today when I came across this article on Al Gore.  Yep, that Al Gore.  The Internet Guy.  The global warming guy.  The Frankenstein clapper guy.  I digress…..

 Well, he testified before a Senate Committee yesterday.  One of the Senators (the chair actually) asked Gore if HE was willing to CHANGE his life to save the planet.  Gore's response:  No.  Here is the exact pledge the Senator asked Mr. Internet Creator Gore:

As a believer:

  • that human-caused global warming is a moral, ethical, and spiritual issue affecting our survival;
  • that home energy use is a key component of overall energy use;
  • that reducing my fossil fuel-based home energy usage will lead to lower greenhouse gas emissions; and
  • that leaders on moral issues should lead by example;

I pledge to consume no more energy for use in my residence than the average American household by March 21, 2008.

Why did he write the pledge the way he did?  Well, it turns out that Al Gore's home in Nashville consumes more electricity in one month than the average house in America does in an entire year.

I think I'll think about considering believing in global warming when those who preach it start to change their life.
