Think this is Spam?

This morning, I saw this in my inbox.  I can’t tell if it is a new form of Spam or if someone simply got the to address wrong.  What do you think?

Hi Aunt Janie!

I would have sent you this email sooner but I am just getting over the
stomach flu! I was pretty sick for about two days. But I’m glad it’s
over with. Anyhow, let’s get this thing started! I am very excited. Here
are the first questions I have:

1. Exactly what services are you dealing with? Food AND beverage (wine).
What are you doing with clients? (really, just the basics of what you’re
doing)

2. Where will you be doing this… initially? your goal place?

3. How many people would you like to ideally be dealing with at a time?
Would you have certain times designated in the week/weekend and people
would just come? Do people have to call first and make appoitments?

4. Have you thought of a name for this new endeavor?

Those are my main ones for now. Anything you want to throw in there
would be great.  Just a general idea of what you would be offering would
be a good start. The next thought I have in mind to ask are what are
your goals? General or specific? Let me know and I’ll try to start
coming up with ideas.  Look forward to hearing from you!

Katie

PS- yes. my email is actually xxxxxxxxxx.   I have no idea why i chose
that as my email at orientation. they told us to do something
professional but I was 17 and had some sort of complex I guess!

Persecution…In Mexico?

I was surfing today before work when I saw a post on PersecutionBlog.com about persecution in Mexico.  I thought this was rather interesting (Mexico wasn’t on my list of countries I thought of as participating in persecution).  Stacy linked to the Compas Direct article which I went and read.  Here is what I found out:

Juan Mendez Mendez became a Christian in a village outside of this city in Chiapas state on April 7, and two days later local authorities put him in jail – for leaving their religious blend of Roman Catholicism and native custom.

A catechist or doctrinal instructor in the “traditionalist Catholic” church in the village of Pasté (pahs-TEH), the 25-year-old Mendez was released on Tuesday (April 10) after spending the night in jail. The previous Easter Sunday, political bosses in the Tzotzil Maya village noticed him missing from a church festival involving what Mendez considered to be idolatrous rites; they summoned him that evening.

“They said, ‘What do you mean that you’ve accepted Christ – you mean you don’t believe in our gods [Catholic saints]?’” Mendez told Compass. “And I said, ‘Well, those were just apostles, and now I belong to Christ.’”

Later on, Juan is threated:

The officials threatened to strip him and throw cold water on him in jail, Mendez said. “You know what else we’re going to do?” one of them told the father of three pre-school children. “We’re going to beat you. We’re going to hit you.”

Mendez said he replied, “‘You know, if you’re going to beat me, then here I am. Here I am, if you’re going to beat me.’ But another said, ‘No, we’re not going to beat him.’”

This should serve as a wake-up call to American Christians.  While we aren’t being jailed today for our faith, the day may come (in the not so distant future…it could be tomorrow depending on what laws our government passes) where we too will be faced with persectution.  The time to decide how you will act and what your faith means to you is not then…it is today!

Weight, Fitness, et al

First off, here is my link to today’s fit day journal.

I also wanted to give some credit where credit is due.  God is faithful!  In this post, I talked about my weight loss (or lack there of) and how I finally realized I needed to just turn it over to God.  So, I have simply been eating right (well, mostly those of you who look at yesterday’s fit day journal will notice I went to Chipotle for dinner and had some ice cream) and leaving the rest up to God.  Today marks a 20lb weight loss.  I started off with my first weigh-in of 2007 weighing 248lbs.  This morning, I weighed 227!  God is awesome.

To meet my goal of 215 by June 1, I still need to loose about 2lbs per week; however, if God wants it to happen, it will happen.  I just need to do my part by eating right and exercising.

Bike Route 19 April 2007

First, I think I’m going to start making 1 post per day about my bike rides.  The commute to work will get posted in the morning with an update in the evening (or next day) with my ride home.  If I go for an extra ride, I’ll post that as an edit to the same post.

Without further adeau, here was my ride to work this morning:

Random Links for 18 April 2007

Iraqi Christians forced to pay Islamic “Protection” Tax — outrageous!  I can’t believe we allowed them to have Islamic Rule in that country after we freed them.

Jesus Absent from VT Convocation — ARG!  This is just like our government…include everyone but Christians.

US Gun Laws Drawing Heat — this isn’t surprising given the rest of the world, almost, makes it illegal to own firearms.  But it isn’t the availability of guns in America that is the problem.  The problem is a lack of guns.

2,500 mile cab ride…for cats — these people were nuts.

2007 is the summer of sequels — I’m looking forward to this:  Spiderman 3, Shrek 3, and Pirates 3 (just to name a few)

10 Weeks!

I can’t believe our precious little one is already 10 weeks old!!  They’ve been the longest and the shortest, toughest and most rewarding, weeks of my life.  Motherhood is beyond challenging, but there are no words to describe how special and awesome it is.

God has blessed us tremendously during these weeks.  Lydia continues to thrive and delights us daily with her sweet self.  Not this she doesn’t have her share of fussy moments, but she also smiles, laughs, coos, gurgles, and otherwise “plays” with us during much of her awake time.  She’s really become aware of people and objects in the last few weeks and it’s incredible to see her reacting to sights and sounds (faces and cheerful voices, especially).  She kicks with excitement, she follows her toys with her eyes when we move them around, and she’s discovering her hands and ears as objects of amusement.  One of her favorite games is to lay on the ottoman (glider) and push against us to make herself go.  We layed her on the ottoman at Great Grandpa’s house one morning and she started pushing against Grandma’s hands.  It was really neat to watch her smiling and doing it again…so we have continued at home and she still loves it!

Lydia is gaining strength and greater motor control everyday.  She’s holding her head up more and she’s trying to roll over from time to time.  We’re giving her tummy time and she’s working on lifting and holding her head and upper body up.  She has even slept through the night a few times, although the last time was two weeks ago.  We were in WV for Matt’s Grandma’s funeral and our schedule (while never all that strict) got REALLY out of whack.  We’ve spent the last week and a half getting back on track.  Last night was her best night since our return and I’m confidant we’ll be back to normal shortly 🙂

One of the hardest things so far has been to give up dairy.  At her two-month visit, the dr. felt her ongoing rashy stuff was likely related to milk allergies, i.e. dairy in my diet.  So I’m on dairy restriction for a couple of weeks, then we’ll start introducing dairy items slowly and see what happens.  If she does react, I’m hoping it’s only to major stuff like milk and cheese.  It would be nice to still have access to chocolate, butter, ranch dressing, etc.  And even if she remains sensitive to even small amounts, I discovered that Oreos have absolutely no dairy, so I have options!!

One other thing…  I thought I would share some things that I have found useful (and not so much) for Lydia and I.  Some things you only need so many of.  I received many, many towels and blankets from our dear friends and church family.  While I am very thankful, I must say that we returned many of these and we could/should have returned more.  You only have so much drawer space and even if you don’t do laundry that often, you just don’t need 10 towels or 15 blankets.  I have found cloth diapers to be very handy.  They make great burp cloths and have lots of other applications.  We also love Lydia’s “hippo” shower sprayer.  Our tub has a fixed shower head, so we have really enjoyed this easy on/off item…and she loves getting sprayed during bathtime!  Another item we are glad to have is a second car seat base.  It is so much easier to just “click” the seat into whichever vehicle and go…it was definitely worth the money.  There are plenty of other things we enjoy having for her, and some things that haven’t proved so useful, at least to date.  As time allows, I’ll share more.

God has been so good to us (although His goodness doesn’t change with less than ideal circumstances) and we have been incredibly blessed to be Lydia’s parents.   I am excited to see how He is going to grow Lydia and what He is going to do in the life of our family in the days and weeks ahead!!
