Carbonated Kool-Aid??

I like green Kool-Aid.  It is the best of all the flavors.  I also like my soda stream that Cyndi got me.  Today, I combined the two.  I made carbonated kool-aid.  It was different and I probably won’t do it again.  I mean it tasted ok…after the fiz left in my mouth.  But before that, it just tasted…well…funny.  Here’s some pictures.

Panorama, ICS, and My Phone

I used to take TONS of panoramas.  So many that I had people think I was a geek, it was stupid, etc….  I thought I turned out some really neat pictures.  Then, I got a new camera.  It wasn’t so easy.  Then I started using my phone.  It got less easy.  Well, with the ICS Android upgrade, the camera application includes a panno feature.  Tried it out today and this picture is the result:

Football aka soccer field in caterham. Panno with android ics

IMHO, the quality isn’t the greatest.  You take the picture in this weird video capture mode where you just rotate the camera and it captures the image.  Sure, it works, but you can g better quality images by rotating the camera yourself and then stitching the images manually.

Lydia, Spring, and Flowers

Lydia and spring flowers

Lydia is currently on a 2 week term break holiday from school.  Cyndi has been going to workout in the day.  Isaac can go to the creche (aka nursery) but Lydia is too old.  I told Cyndi that I could watch her so she could go.  We went to town, had yum yums, coffee, then went to the park for her to play.  Here’s a picture of her I took as we were leaving.  Why this one?  She said it was her favorite (of the 3 I took)

See the red flag? What does it mean?

What does the red flag mean in the allotment?

I saw this red flag flying at one of the allotment spaces on my way to work today.  Does anyone know what it means?  Does it mean anything?

Oh, if you click the picture, you can see the original size image….if you would like.

w00t!

ice cream sandwich 0002

Looked at my phone this morning and saw the notice saying it had, finally, downloaded the ICS (android 4.04, ice cream sandwich) upgrade.  w00t!

I installed it once I got to work.  It looks awesome!  I’ll have to play with it a bit more, but I really really like it.

Note:  this is an update to this article from around a fortnight ago.

[Update 2012-04-05 09:39:29] Here is a link to the page from Google with some of the updates/changes in ICS.

Sick

No wonder I have a sort throat

First off, I’ve been way sicker this winter than I’ve ever been before.  I don’t want to speak for him, but my office mate has been sick loads too.  In some ways, I think we keep sharing the same things back and forth and back and forth.

Anyway, on Saturday, I feel asleep and woke up with one of these “I’m going to get a sore throat” feelings.  Sure enough…it got worse and worse and worse.  By the time bedtime for the kids came, I had a difficult time eating ice cream.  Yesterday, I didn’t go to church (slept all day).  Today, I didn’t go into the office.  But I did get in to see the dr who took one look and said something like “oh.”  She gave me antibiotics for my strep throat.

This is on of the worst times to be sick.  Over the next month, I’ve got 2 trips to make…I’ll be gone and home the same amount of time.  ARG…..

While we are at it, does anyone have any good ideas for a homemade disinfectant and ideas about how to clean an office?

[Update 2012-04-03 22:19:16] Well, after a bit more than 24 hours on medicine, I’m doing loads better.  I fit 4 doses in on Monday (I was supposed to take 2 pills 4 times per day).  I woke up this morning only feeling slightly better, but that was way better than I felt all weekend.  I’m headed to work tomorrow…where my first take will be to clan my desk, phone, and anything else I can think of with disinfectant.

And Now In The Petrol Row/Not Row

NHS AMBULANCE

For my other stories on the ongoing petrol strike/not strike no-fuel situation:

Filled Up
Strike

When we were in the process of filling up, I saw a police car in the queue to, I assume, get petrol.  At the time, I remember thinking how odd that is.  I assumed emergency services (police, fire, ambulances, etc…) would have their own supply depot somewhere.  I put it out of my mind…until today.

Today, there is a story in the Telegraph that says 999 (the UK version of 911) vehicles are having difficulties filling up their tanks due to shortages, closed stations, and sale limits.  WOW!  I’m really shocked now that the emergency services don’t have their own depot for fueling.

[Update 2012-03-31 08:19:50] Here’s a good summary of the events so far.

[Update 2012-04-19 09:36:06There was an agreement; however, the union has rejected it.  No strike news yet.

For the life of me…

Question mark in Esbjerg

…I can’t figure out how I’m supposed to follow this online debate.  I cannot figure out how to read more than one small snippet of what each person wrote.

And I really want to follow it because I think Bruce Schneier has a good handle on security and the TSA is worthless (I mean the pilot can fly the plane into the ground or go nuts like the EgyptAir 990 pilot or the JetBlue guy…what good does making them take off their shoes and belt do???)

[Update 2012-03-30 18:17:22]  I think I’ve figured it out.  You click the timeline on the top then scroll down.  Where it says skip to… click what you want to read.  The moderator goes first, Pro, then Con.  The paragraphs are numbered per day…not per person/position/day.  That only took forever.

Old Pictures

I was looking through our pictures today and saw this one had a hit on it.

DSC03203

Just in case you need help, it says mine field do not enter.  I took the picture when we went to Mostar 2 years ago (you can read more about our trip here and here).  There was a bunker on a hill above the city that the Croats used to shell Mostar (either that or it was the other way around).  If you want to see pictures of the bunker, look at the set on flickr here.  If you want to learn more about the shelling of Mostar, watch these videos on youtube (but take them with a grain of salt.  I haven’t watched all of them…and if I had, I wasn’t there.  I don’t know how one sided they are.)
