12 weeks and counting

Tomorrow, Little One is officially 12 weeks old! I realize this isn't as big a milestone as it will be when we can hold L.O. and celebrate our first 3 months together, but it's still pretty exciting. It can be hard not to wonder if everything is going alright, if he or she is growing right along…but it's comforting to know that we're pretty much through the 1st trimester. And whatever happens, God is in control!!

I have been feeling much better lately. Mostly, I only feel poorly if I need to eat…which seems to be more often than in the past 🙂 It's been challenging to try to adjust my eating habits, but I'm working on it. At least I feel like eating again! I haven't really put on any weight since I was sick off and on for so many weeks, but I think my stomach just may be getting a little rounder. I'm even looking forward to the time when my clothes get snug!!

Speaking of, I bought my first maternity clothes on Saturday:^) We spent the day with my aunt and uncle in MD and Angela and my cousin, Rachael, took me to Baby Depot to check things out. It was a lot of fun just to see everything and laugh with the girls! And I got a really cute white shirt and a long, black broomstick skirt that, while too big now, should serve me well through most of the pregnancy…as long as I don't gain 50 pounds or anything!!

This week will be busy thanks to VBS, and next week will be even worse since I'll be working long days with the missionary kids, but it'll help pass the time to my next OB visit on August 1!!!

Happy 4th

Well…it's another HOT and HUMID day here in Richmond. All I can say is that I am sooo thankful the baby isn't due til winter! I cannot imagine being 3rd trimester during summer in the south!! As for 1st trimester, I'm hanging in there. Last week was good sickness-wise and I was continuing to feel well until yesterday, when I felt pretty terrible most of the day. This morning was rough too, but after taking it easy for a while, this afternoon has been okay. Matt and I got to enjoy a late lunch at an awesome chinese buffet in town and I just stuck with basic stuff like chicken/shrimp with broccoli. My big splurge was crab rangoon…which is my absolute favorite! So far I still feel good, and I'm hopeful that will continue to be the case throughout the evening :^)
I've been pretty tired lately, but part of that is the result of working 6-day weeks with little kids for the last 2 weeks. I'm looking forward to next week, when I'll start a few weeks of down-time. I love what I do, but I'm ready to catch up on my rest and do some "baby" reading.
As for the rest of our 4th… we had a nice time exploring the bookstore and walking around the mall. I even ducked into Motherhood Maternity to check things out. It looks like they may have good sale racks, so I'm sure I'll have to investigate further in coming months. It was good to get out, but it's nice to be home where we can spend the rest of the evening relaxing with the Tour de France! Matt sure will be disappointed if "Little One" doesn't like cycling!!

Misc. baby stuff

Well…I am happy to report yet another day with no morning/all day sickness!! That makes 4 days in a row..whoo hoo :^) I've been able to mostly set aside my saltines and ginger snaps, which has been a relief. Ginger snaps, especially, have been very helpful…but you can only eat so many! This past week has been a good one with the kids at work, and all the teachers and parents have been so sweet and encouraging about the baby. It's such a blessing to know that you have a group of people praying for you and ready to help you through this amazing experience. Although the help I really need these days involves some extra nap time! As much as I'll miss the kids, I'm looking forward to the end of next week. After that Friday, I'll be off for a while and can enjoy some much-needed down time. I know I'd better enjoy it while I can, because after January…there won't be any for a long time!!

First Baby Visit

We are sooo blessed! Today was our very first baby visit! It was a little overwhelming, but mostly very neat. Dr. Royal is very nice and I felt really comfortable with her. Matt was a trooper…hanging out with me the whole time. The best part was definitely getting to see the baby and hear the heartbeat!! Little One waved his/her arm buds at us and seemed happy to "smile" for the camera. We'll be posting the ultrasound pics shortly. The rest of the visit was pretty straightforward: meet/greet, question/answer, poke/prod…Dr. Royal is easy-going and easy to talk to, so I'm looking forward to future visits. My next appointment is August 1, at which point I'll be 14 weeks. I get pretty nervous/excited about stuff, so my blood pressure was a little elevated (white coat hypertension), but other than that everything was great! I even got a bag of goodies (books, pamphlets, coupons, etc.). We were a little concerned about some insurance stuff, but a quick phone call relieved those anxieties. After some relatively minor copays, everything else is covered 100%…Praise the Lord!!
Now that the first visit is behind us, I'll be posting baby updates regularly 🙂
