Think Your Witnessing Doesn’t Matter?

Pastor Zack mentioned this story today and I decided I had to google around for it and share it with everyone.  It is the story of a man named Mr. Jenner, George St., Syndey Australia, and witnessing.

They went to meet Mr. Jenner, now an old man who was dying of Parkinson’s disease. He was a humble man filled with the love of Christ. He told them, “for about twenty-five years I have been speaking to at least ten people a day. I have only one line of approach. I have spoken to hundreds a year. I have spoken to thousands over the years.” With tears in his eyes he said, “Do you know what? I have never lead anyone to Christ.”

Go read the story and see what you think.  It should serve as an ecouragement to everyone wondering about not bearing fruit and witnessing.

[Update 2007-03-25 21:32:06] I found another site with the story on the internet and wanted to share it.  The details are below.

Here’s another link to another site with the same story. That same site had audio andvideo files they allow people to share (yay!).  I’ve decided to mirror them on my website.  As they say, feel free to download them, enjoy them, and share them.

Laptop

I'm looking for a new computer.  A laptop to be specific.  Here's what I'd like:

  • AMD 64 bit processor
  • ultra portable (12 or so inch screen, but I'm willing to be flexible)
  • 1 GB RAM (minimum…2GB would be nice)
  • 100 GB or so hard drive
  • Built in support for 802.11x (a, b, g)
  • A docking station
  • Preinstalled with Ubuntu Lunix
  • I'd like it to be black
  • under $2,000

So far, I've found this one from system76.  I thought I would post here to see if anyone else had ideas on where I could find what I'm looking for.

Al Gore — What a hypocrite!

I was reading WorldNetDaily today when I came across this article on Al Gore.  Yep, that Al Gore.  The Internet Guy.  The global warming guy.  The Frankenstein clapper guy.  I digress…..

 Well, he testified before a Senate Committee yesterday.  One of the Senators (the chair actually) asked Gore if HE was willing to CHANGE his life to save the planet.  Gore's response:  No.  Here is the exact pledge the Senator asked Mr. Internet Creator Gore:

As a believer:

  • that human-caused global warming is a moral, ethical, and spiritual issue affecting our survival;
  • that home energy use is a key component of overall energy use;
  • that reducing my fossil fuel-based home energy usage will lead to lower greenhouse gas emissions; and
  • that leaders on moral issues should lead by example;

I pledge to consume no more energy for use in my residence than the average American household by March 21, 2008.

Why did he write the pledge the way he did?  Well, it turns out that Al Gore's home in Nashville consumes more electricity in one month than the average house in America does in an entire year.

I think I'll think about considering believing in global warming when those who preach it start to change their life.

Standing on the Promises — Lyrics

Every time we sing the hymn Standing on the Promises, it bothers me.  I remember the lyrics for the chorus like this:

Standing, standing,
standing on the promises of Christ my Savior;
standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God.

But the current edition of the Baptist Hymnal has the chorus like this:

Standing, standing,
standing on the promises of God my Savior;
standing, standing,
I'm standing on the promises of God.

How about you?  How do you remember the lyrics to this song?

Pictures

I've had a few people talk to me about the size of my pictures (I know…they aren't all up yet.).  You know…why do you have to take pictures that big?  Why put them on the web that large?

 Well, yes, I must take pictures at the highest resolution my camera will capture.  I'll never be able to get that high of resolution again; however, I can get them smaller.

Why put them on the web that big?  Well, what if you want the fullsize image?  Isn't it easier to download it right away rather than have to e-mail me?

So…as long as I'm paying the bandwidth bill, the images will be as big as I can get them.  That means maximum resolution and maximum sharpness.

Neat Site

I just found this site today:  http://www.sanoodi.com.  I plan to start using it to track my bike rides.  Once I figure out how I can share them, I'll let everyone know.

 (note…the link is posted here so I won't forget what it is  by the time I get home Laughing)

 You'll notice I don't have anything for lunch on the 20th.  We had all day meetings at work and they brought in lunch.  I didn't know how to log the stuff, so I left it off.  Just for the record, here is what I had (from Panera bread):

  1.  Some kind of salad with parmesian cheese, tomatoes, black olives, etc…
  2. Dressing (1-2 tbsp)
  3. Diet dr pepper
  4. a turnkey turkey sandwitch (dry)
  5. a small snack bag of krunchers
  6. a cookie

Today we'll have lunch brought in from another company.  My goal is to eat better today.

Weight Loss

If you have been following my blog for a while, you’ll know that I’m in the process of loosing weight.  I started off the year at a high of 248.  I want to end up at 215 by June 1.  Right now, I’m sitting at 234…that means I am 14 lbs down and 19 lbs to go.  If you do the math, that works out to almost 2 lbs per week.  I’ve been doing everything…watching what I eat (and not doing a great job of it…weekends are rough), working out on the Nordic Trac, and even taking some hoodia.  Well, this morning while doing my Bible study, I realized I hadn’t done what I really needed to do:  turn it over to God.

So, with that revealed to me, I decided to pray about it.  You’ll find more detail later why I think God cares about my weight (but we are supposed to take care of our bodies), but I turned it over to Him.  I’m still watching what I eat (I’m going to work harder on the weekends) and working out; however, this is up to God.  He created my body…He can make it loose weight.

So, if you are looking for something to pray about, why not join me in praying about my weight.  Pray that God would allow me to eat healthy.  Pray that I would continue to work out.  But, in the end, when I get to my goal, it is God that got me there.

Thanks!

[Update 04-19-2007  07:48:43] I posted an update about my weight loss in this post.  God is awesome!
