Don’t you understand?!

I sat down this morning, opened up a web browser, and was presented with a link to an article about Bible translation.  The article is on the IMB’s homepage and leaves the reader with something good to chew on.

“Don’t you understand?…These people need the Gospel…They need the Scripture in their language.”

Arg! These Liberals!

Are making it very difficult to witness. Now, when I witness to a Mulsmim friend, what do I tell him when he asks about this person? What does that make someone think whose first exposure to Christianity is someone like this?

I then have to explain how that person really isn’t a Christian…they don’t believe any of the Bible (obviously). They don’t stand up for it. I don’t understand why they continue having this veneer of “somethingness”

Don’t believe me, go read this article come back, and tell me what you think.

2007 Day of Prayer and Fasting

Today is the day the IMB has set asside for IMB Staff to observe the 2007 Day of Prayer and Fasting for International Missions .  They are asking everyone else to set aside the 27th of May (we have some special stuff normally planned for Wednesday so it fits the schedule nicely).

This year, the focus is on the Udmurt people group in Russia.  If you want, the IMB has a site vith videos you can watch (I’d link to them directly; however, it’s a goofy flash site so I can’t).  If you want to watch the videos, I’ve downloaded them and am hosting them directly.  Below are links to each of the videos:

Scratch that idea.  The movies are supposed to be in quicktime format, but I can’t play them.  I tried to open them in VirtualDub (so I could convert them to another format) and that didn’t work either.  I’m going to e-mail the media guys to see if I can get a good copy of the videos.  If I can, I’ll host them here.

[Update 05-24-2007 07:55:53] I’ve figured out how to rip the DVD and convert the videos so I can upload them to Google Video.  Links to the videos can be found in this post

Lottie Moon

I was doing some research on the Internet today about Lottie Moon.  I was trying to find out where in Crewe she is burried because I am planning the route for the 2007 Missions Century.  But, I digress.  I came across a PDF file that was a short history of Lottie Moon; however, it was on a site that looked as if it were dying.  I have decided to copy the file here as well as redo the article as a plain post.  The article is copyrighted by the International Mission Board; however, they don’t care if you redistribute their material as long as it doesn’t harm the cause of international missions.

Here is a link to the pdf about Lottie Moon.  I need to format the text for a post.  Once I get that done, I’ll post a follow-up here.

Think Your Witnessing Doesn’t Matter?

Pastor Zack mentioned this story today and I decided I had to google around for it and share it with everyone.  It is the story of a man named Mr. Jenner, George St., Syndey Australia, and witnessing.

They went to meet Mr. Jenner, now an old man who was dying of Parkinson’s disease. He was a humble man filled with the love of Christ. He told them, “for about twenty-five years I have been speaking to at least ten people a day. I have only one line of approach. I have spoken to hundreds a year. I have spoken to thousands over the years.” With tears in his eyes he said, “Do you know what? I have never lead anyone to Christ.”

Go read the story and see what you think.  It should serve as an ecouragement to everyone wondering about not bearing fruit and witnessing.

[Update 2007-03-25 21:32:06] I found another site with the story on the internet and wanted to share it.  The details are below.

Here’s another link to another site with the same story. That same site had audio andvideo files they allow people to share (yay!).  I’ve decided to mirror them on my website.  As they say, feel free to download them, enjoy them, and share them.

IMB/International Missions Stats

At the last IMB Trustee Meeting, the following new information was reported:

— engaged a total of 1,170 people groups worldwide, three-quarters of whom are classified by mission researchers as unreached (less than 2 percent of the population claiming evangelical Christian faith).

— engaged for the first time 104 people groups, 73 of whom are unreached, with a combined population of nearly 100 million.

— engaged 120 unreached urban centers, including 12 for the first time.

— started 23,486 churches and more than 10,600 "outreach groups" (potential future churches). That brought total partner churches worldwide to 135,252, with a combined membership of 8.8 million, and outreach groups to 55,723.

— baptized 475,072 new believers – about 1,300 each day or one each minute.

— involved nearly 510,000 new believers in discipleship training, in addition to more than 1.1 million existing church members in discipleship groups. Those are "solid indicators showing the excitement and hunger for the Word of God," Holste said. "As people are introduced to the Bible and come to know Christ, they are baptized and nearly all are discipled in their first year of Christian growth. For the first time in our reporting history, the number of church members in discipleship training has risen above the 1 million mark."

— trained more than 150,000 Christian leaders in nonresidential settings (extension and correspondence course, short-term courses, on-the-job training) and more than 20,000 in residential pastoral programs.

— worked with 1,772 international missionaries sent out by overseas Baptist partners to other people groups and 3,400 home missionaries reaching out to people groups within their own countries.

Remember the Believers

We should pray for the believers in Lebanon and Israel.  Pray that God would use them to be a strong witness in this time of turmoil.  Pray that God would send people to help comfort their families back in the US.

SBC 2006 Personal Results

Listening to Dr. Welch's last message, I made up my mind that I had to do something.  I needed to set some personal goal.  So, I have:

I have 1 year and in that year, I want to see one person converted, baptised, and being discipled to do the same thing.

I need everyone to pray for me that God will allow me to do this. Pray that I'll have the courage to stand up and witness.

I'll post updates every few weeks to let everyone know how I am doing.
