Sick

No wonder I have a sort throat

First off, I’ve been way sicker this winter than I’ve ever been before.  I don’t want to speak for him, but my office mate has been sick loads too.  In some ways, I think we keep sharing the same things back and forth and back and forth.

Anyway, on Saturday, I feel asleep and woke up with one of these “I’m going to get a sore throat” feelings.  Sure enough…it got worse and worse and worse.  By the time bedtime for the kids came, I had a difficult time eating ice cream.  Yesterday, I didn’t go to church (slept all day).  Today, I didn’t go into the office.  But I did get in to see the dr who took one look and said something like “oh.”  She gave me antibiotics for my strep throat.

This is on of the worst times to be sick.  Over the next month, I’ve got 2 trips to make…I’ll be gone and home the same amount of time.  ARG…..

While we are at it, does anyone have any good ideas for a homemade disinfectant and ideas about how to clean an office?

[Update 2012-04-03 22:19:16] Well, after a bit more than 24 hours on medicine, I’m doing loads better.  I fit 4 doses in on Monday (I was supposed to take 2 pills 4 times per day).  I woke up this morning only feeling slightly better, but that was way better than I felt all weekend.  I’m headed to work tomorrow…where my first take will be to clan my desk, phone, and anything else I can think of with disinfectant.

Old Pictures

I was looking through our pictures today and saw this one had a hit on it.

Just in case you need help, it says mine field do not enter.  I took the picture when we went to Mostar 2 years ago (you can read more about our trip here and here).  There was a bunker on a hill above the city that the Croats used to shell Mostar (either that or it was the other way around).  If you want to see pictures of the bunker, look at the set on flickr here.  If you want to learn more about the shelling of Mostar, watch these videos on youtube (but take them with a grain of salt.  I haven’t watched all of them…and if I had, I wasn’t there.  I don’t know how one sided they are.)

Grits for Breakfast

GritsI really like grits with over-easy eggs for breakfast.  Not every morning, mind you.  But I do like grits.  When Cyndi and I came back to England, we didn’t bring any (who knows why) and we haven’t found a replacement here for them.  However, my parents just sent us a box and included a box of grits in the mix.  So, that’s what I had for breakfast this morning….grits and two over-easy eggs.

SodaStream!

SodaStream

Cyndi got me a SodaStream Genesis for Valentine’s day.  I’ve been wanting one ever since we left the states.  This thing is awesome….now, I don’t have to make my own CO2 for root beer.  I can just mix it up, push a button a few times, and BAM…I’ve got carbonated rootbeer.

I’ve got some videos I’ll upload and link to of the unboxing and making my first root beer.

[Update 2012-04-06 16:12:59] Haven’t done the making my first root beer yet.  Well, I’ve made it but I didn’t do pictures.  Sorry.  But, today, I did carbonate some green kool aid.

[Update 2013-02-02 15:48:45] Here’s a write up on making root beer in my soda stream.

Dublin Dr. Pepper

dublin dr pepper

I know lots of people from Texas.  Last week, all of them started moaning that The Dublin Bottling Works wasn’t going to make Dublin Dr. Pepper any more.  Most of them were moaning and blaming Dr. Pepper.  From what I understand, the problem lies solely with Dublin Dr. Pepper.

For those who don’t know, “Dublin” Dr. Pepper had continued to make (and market) Dr. Pepper made with 100% cane sugar (instead of HFCS).  It was good and was really popular.  As people moved away, they still wanted their fix of Dublin Dr. Pepper.  Right there is the problem…..As you can see from the picture, they were marketing the Dr. Pepper not just as plain old Dr. Pepper but “Dublin” Dr. Pepper.  Dr. Pepper stepped in to protect their trademark.  That is why I think the problem was with the bottler.

If they had simply lapeled their product Dr. Pepper just like everything else there would have been no problem.  People would have driven to Dublin Texas (or the surrounding counties), sought out the Dr. Pepper bottled by the Dublin Plant (it is on the cans), and everything would have been honkey dorey.  But things weren’t.  From the articles I’ve read, that is why Dr. Pepper took them to court in the first place.

BTW, no one is going to loose the taste of Dublin Dr. Pepper.  Dr. Pepper has said they are going to continue marketing cane sweetened pop to the counties that should have been serviced by The Dublin Bottling Works.

I Just Heard….

Mickey Mouse St. Louis Cardinals All-Star Games Statue in Downtown Disney

…that the STL Cardinals just beat the TX Rangers to win the World Series.  Now, I don’t have a dog in this fight, so to speak; but I’m happy for the Cardinals.

I used to live in MO (Hermann, MO.  Right here actually).  I forget what year it was, but St. Louis was playing the Twins (if I remember correctly).  We had to go out in the evening and twist our TV antenna around to watch it because it wasn’t on any of the stations we normally got from Columbia….it was on the STL stations.  Then, after we were done, we had to go back out and turn it around the other way so we could watch normal TV.
