C&O Canal Bike Ride

Cyndi and I went to visit her aunt and uncle in Maryland.  I needed to ride so I brought my bike.  They suggested I ride on the C&O Canal.  It ended up and was ok (it wasn’t paved and in fairly good shape.  I’d do it again next time we come up).  I took a few maps I found on the internet and put together so everyone could see where I rode.

My stats were:

Avg Speed: 16.6 mph
Total Distance: 35 miles
Time Riding: 2 hrs 9 min 9 sec

(click the image for a larger view).  I rode the red line along the river from Brunswick in the lower right to the end up by the big 180 degree bend in the upper left)

Bike Ride Stats — 3 August 2007

I had been off my bike for almost 4 weeks so I took time this morning to go out.  I felt ok; however, I could tell I had been off the bike.  By the time I finished, the temp was 95 deg…HOT!

Bike Route for 12 May 2007

Wallace and I went out for our normal Saturday ride today.  My dad joined us, so we rode up to his place then on up to Ashland.  We used RABAs ABC route as the basis.  It was pretty good…just short.  I don’t think I could do just that.

This was the longest ride this year for me (46.43).  And this was on top of commuting 4 days and taking a special ride on Friday.

Bike Route for 5 May 2007

Wallace and I rode a loop out and back to Goochland on Saturday.  This was our first ride of the year that was > 40 miles.  With this ride, my week went over 100 miles….actually I did (145mi total).

Bike Route for 28 April 2007

This morning, Wallace couldn’t make the Saturday ride so I went out myself.  I decided I was tired or riding in the city so I decided to ride out towards Goochland County and ride a bit in the country.

I wanted to leave at 6:30; however, I didn’t get up in time so I left at 7:30.  The trip out was hard but I don’t know why.  It didn’t seem windy.  It didn’t look like I was going uphill.  At the 1/2 way point, I had only averaged about 16mph.  On the way back, my speed increased and I ended up and averaged 17mph for the entire ride!

I passed a large group of riders headed out once I made my turn from South Anna onto Howards Mill Road.  I don’t have an idea of how fast they were going, but it was a large group (20-30).  They were decked out in road bikes, jerseys, etc….  Like always, I waved, but they ignored me.  Guys, would it kill you to atleast acknowledge other riders?  I may not have the best bike and may not look like much, but don’t judge a book by it’s cover.  As a brief aside, I have noticed the same things on my commute.  In general, the guys out riding with full kit don’t wave, don’t look, don’t do anything but pund away.  However, people with less nice bikes, commuters, etc… will wave, nod, smile, etc….

Anyway, enough on that…here is the route I rode this morning:

Bike Route 26 April 2007

Sorry about not posting yesterday.  I was really busy at work and needed the time to get some real work done.  But starting back up today….here is this morning’s route:

River Road Loop — 21 April 2007

Wallace and I went out for a saturday ride today.  At the start, I was worried about the ride; however, it ended up great.  I didn’t know how my body would react to a 30+ mile ride (my longest this year so far has been a 8 mile ride to work).
