Isaac and I at coffee

Last Friday (23 March) I had just returned from a trip to Prague so I took the day off.  Cyndi had Bible Study so Isaac and I went to coffee, had yum-yums (for those who don’t know, yum-yums are kind of like donut twist things…they are really good), then went to the park.  Here is Isaac at coffee.

Lydia, Birthday Parties, and Facepaint

Here, kids’ birthday parties are a big deal.  If you invite people, you go whole-hog and hire a venue (typically a play-place sort of thing), have lots of food, and invite tons of people.  On Sunday (25 March) Lydia was invited to a party for one of her classmates.  They had face painting and, of course, she got her face done.  Here are the pictures of her in her face paint.

Neat Shop

Neat shop

Every day I walk by this shop.  I’ve always thought the paint-job on it (and the shop itself) is a good representation of what I see on a daily basis.  Quaint little shops that, mostly, fit my stereotype of English “town” life.  London, on the other hand looks nothing like this.

[Update 2012-03-27 08:36:53]  Right down the street from this are these row houses.

Turkey Deep Fryer

Turkey deep fryer hooked up to calor gas

When we came back to England, we brought our Turkey Deep Fryer with us.  At first, I thought I was going to have to get a new connector and regulator; however, then I got to looking….I was able to take our deep fryer (with the POL connector that it had) and hook it directly up to the calor gas cylinder that I got.  Looks like it will work well!

2 Outstanding Restaurants

I’ve been in Prague the past week.  While here, I’ve eaten a 2 different restaurant’s that I thought were outstanding.  The food tasted good, the atmosphere was great, and I wanted to let everyone know.  If you want a map to the place, just click on the picture and zoom in on the map there at flickr.  I’ve also put the names as hyperlinks to the google page about the places so you can get their phone numbers and see other ratings.

Sonora….even though the food wasn’t called what I remember it (my tamales weren’t rolled and steamed in cornhusks but were more flat corn tortilla things) it was good.  The spice was really good but didn’t over power the taste of the food.

Highland…I had to make a reservation for here as it was busy the night before.  The steak tasted good…the best steak I’ve had outside of the US…hands down.

Th service was good at both places and prices were about the same (200-300 czech crowns).

Weird Error

Error terminal Los Rodeos

Just wanted to blog about this really weird error I’ve been getting on this site for the past few days.  When I would go in and use tinymce to edit an article and click the HTML button, I’d get a window full of junk (literally…some stuff from verisign, some nonprintable characters, etc….).  The problem would happen regardless of the browser I was using too so I didn’t think it was a cache issue.

Well, I ended up and cleared my cache and it started working again.  Hope this helps someone.

Google Talk and Speakers

Ok…I’m writing about this weird problem I had tonight on Google Talk.  Everyone could hear me.  I could hear sounds on my computer and so could they.  But I couldn’t hear them talk.  They could hear me…but nothing on my end.  Yes, I did have the voice and video plugin installed and I was using the gmail interface (don’t know why their client doesn’t support it but that is another story)

I looked, looked, and looked.  I checked my control panel settings.  I had them check their control panel settings.  I couldn’t sort out what the problem was.  Then, I came across this post in the google talk forums.  Here’s what I did to fix this problem:

Login to gmail
Go to settings (the gear in the middle-upper right)
Go to chat
When I verified my settings, I couldn’t hear the test sound (even though I could hear other sounds on my computer)

To solve this problem, I explicitly picked my speakers instead of the default.  Once I saved it, it started working.  Wow…that wasn’t obvious at all!

ICS is Headed to my Nexus S

Last year, Google announced ICS and said that the Nexus S would eventually get the update.  They started OTA updates but had problems so they pulled the update.  Today, I read that Google has announced within the next few weeks ICS will be headed to my Nexus S.  YAY!

Currently, I’m running 2.3.2…the same version I’ve been running since a few days after I got my Nexus S (more on that saga here and here).

[Update 2012-04-05 08:50:40] Today my Nexus S got ICS!  w00t!  It looks great.

[Update 2012-12-26 15:32:07] My links needed redone.
