Ok…Im Ready

Today, if you haven't heard, the Brits foiled a plot to blow up airliners on their way across the Atlantic. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but the list of what you can and can't have on an airplane just got bigger. There are the normal:

  • no guns
  • no knives
  • no scisors (wait…that is unless they are under 4 inches long)
  • no bombs

But to that list, add:

  • no water
  • no pop (soda, coke, whatever you call it)
  • no eye drops
  • no and lotion
  • no chapstic
  • no toothpaste
  • no deoderant
  • no books
  • no electronics
  • no carry-ons

Well, those last three apply only to flights that originate in Great Britain, but the others are on the list anywhere.

In my mind, we are letting the terrorists win. This is what they want. I saw on another website this quote: If the terrorists invent explosive underwear, will we all have to fly naked? I don't get it. No one remembers the glory days of aviation any more. The days when planes had wicker seats and people dressed up to fly. The days when you could get a bed on a flight. The days when you didn't have to take your shoes off to go through security?

Oh well, I guess we'll all just have to get used to an increase in deep vein thrombosis. (just in case you don't know, one of the ways to help combat that disease is to not get dehydrated while on a plane. I don't know about you, but one of those little cups of water they give out on a plane isn't enough to keep me for 10 minutes….let alone an eight hour flight across the Atlantic).

Just to keep you interested, here is a link to an article on BoingBoing about the issue (there are several more, but due to the language, I won't link to them.

We Woke Up This Morning To Hear About This….

UK Officials Thwart Potential Terror Plot.  From that story:

Congestion was building up rapidly at the airport as authorities enforced strict new regulations banning most hand baggage.

British Airways said some flights were likely to be canceled. Laptop computers, mobile phones, iPods, and remote controls were among items banned from being carried on its planes.

Fox News TV was also reporting the additional security measures banned ALL cary-ons.  This would include things like books, all liquids (water, baby formula, etc….), among other things.

I'll post more later (maybe this evening).

Marriage: Always a Disaster?

I was surfing today when I came across this article on marriage from Dr. Mohler's Blog.  Here is a quote:

“I'm not looking forward to marriage," says Nakeeda Burns , a 17-year-old resident of Revere and daughter of a single mother, “and I don't think we [people in general] should be married, because I see how other marriages ended up in my family and on television. It's always a disaster."

I just thought I would chime in.  It isn't always a disaster.  I'm married (8 almost 9 years now), and happy.  It isn't always perfect…it isn't always easy…but I'm happy that God brought Cyndi and I together.  I can't imagine my life without her.

FLoyd Landers

I was looking at my stats and referrers tonight, and I noticed quite a few hits comming from Australia.  I can only assume they are hitting this post I wrote about Stage 1 of the 2006 TDF.

We get a respectable amount of traffic, but not many comments.  So, I decided I would make this post and ask for comments.  Just drop me a line and tell me where you are from, how you got here, and what you are looking for.

On Point — On Testosterone

I was surfing yesterday and came across this link to an NPR show called On Point.  On Monday, their show dealt with Testosterone.  If you want to listen, follow this link to the On Point — On Testosterone show.  I’m listening to it right now…as of minute 20, it is a fairly good and balanced show.

[Update 2012-12-26 16:57:30] On Point changed their website.  I’ve updated the show link.

[Update 2013-01-18 06:58:05Lance has admitted to doping.

[Update 2013-01-18 07:12:02] I’ve decided to download and archive what media I can.  Here is a direct link to the mp3 just in case the on point website goes down.

Feeling Better

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am feeling better.  My throat isn't sore any more, but my nose is still stuffy and green when I blow.  I took today off from riding, and I'm taking tomorrow off too.

No Riding Today — ARG!

I have a summer cold.  I woke up Saturday for my ride feeling great, rode 50+ miles, then started feeling bad in the afternoon.  Sunday, I stayed home from visitation at church and took a nap (unheard of).  Last night, I woke up about every 2 hours because of a sore throat.  So, I decided to drive to work today and tomorrow to let my body heal.

Bike Ride Route — 5 Aug, 2006

Wallace and I did another Saturday Ride.  If you want to see the route, click here.  We rode the Riverside Trail in Richmond, VA.  That was a great ride.  Nice hills, no traffic, and there are signs to boot showing you where to go.  The worst part of the ride was riding down Cary St. to cross the Robert. E. Lee Bridge….I didn't care for that too much once we got to Carytown.

We got lost a few times, but still ended up and made good time.  My overall avg. speed was lower than I wanted, but we were pulling up some hills and taking it easy.
