I wish I could….

…remember the name of this cpmany that tried this bid for gas thing way back when I was in college.  Cyndi and I were married (so I’m sure it was after 1999).  The way it worked was you signed up for an account, then bid for x number of gal. of gas at x price.  If you won, you could go pump that many gallons of gas at the station, swipe your card with them (I think), and go.  I forget how you got the difference back.  And I remember you were hit with a penalty if you went over your gal. amount by a certain amount.  We did it 2 or 3 times before the service went kaput like so many other things did with the bubble burst.  Anway, if you want to pay to try and hedge your gas prices, check out this site:

Short Post…more to come

Well, we are getting a chance to travel to Greece! We are leaving today and will be gone all of this week. I don’t know if we’ll have internet access while we are gone. If we do, I’ll do my best to blog over the week. If not, I’ll do one of my delayed blog things again.

By the way, some interesting posts that are planned:

Things I’ve learned over the past few weeks
Things I wish I had known

Chronological Bible Reading

I’m looking for a way to make my copy of Logos set up a chronological bible reading plan (you know…where you read the Bible in the order that everything happened). Does anyone have any ideas?

Storm

We had our first storm here in Serbia two nights ago. We went to bed about 22:30 (that’s how they say 10:30 pm here). I got woke up at midnight or so to what sounded like a freight train outside. Let me tell you, it poked the rain down, it was windy too boot, and we had thunder and lightning. It was something else!

This is a picture of the sunset from that evening. It certainly doesn’t look menacing, does it?

Glasses

I just picked up my glasses today from Sears. Long story, but I waited until the last minute to pick them out and get them ordered (I never like shopping for glasses). Well, it turns out that I could see ok from the left eye, but the right eye was all whacked out. I went to a sears here (not where I ordered them from) and asked the lady to look at them.

Well, it turns out that not too much was right on the glasses. She had to order new lenses, etc…. So, they won’t be in before we leave. So, I’m having to take a chance and get them fixed then have Cyndi’s aunt pick them up and ship them over to us. ARG!

Lydia and the Bamboo Fork

DSC05475

Here is a picture of Lydia eating with the bamboo fork. Now, that may not seem like much of anything to anyone else out there; however, when my sister, Melanie, and I were little, we would fight over who got to eat with the “bamboo” fork. It isn’t really bamboo…it just has a bamboo pattern on the handle. Other than that, and being the only piece of silverware like that my grandparents owned, there is nothing special about it. I’ve mentioned it to my cousins (they are teenagers) and they don’t pick about it like we did. Who knows…things must have been different in the 80’s.

Anyway Melanie…now Lydia has the bamboo fork and you don’t!

I’ll upload the picture and update this post later when I have a chance.

Rest, Relaxation, and Refreshing

Cyndi and I have spent the last two months in orientation getting ready for our overseas journey. Our brains have been crammed full of information on culture shock, adjusting to life overseas, being safe, etc…. We were in session from 8am to 3pm (and sometimes 5pm) and on some Saturdays even. We finished that up last Wednesday and left for West Virginia. So far, this trip has been very relaxing.

On Sunday, we drove to Williamstown to Williams Creek Baptist Church where I attended while in High School (although then, it was called First Southern Fellowship). Today, we met with the pastor of Faith Baptist Church in West Union to talk about this weekend. The pastor there, Jim, is such a nice guy. We had a great time talking to him, learning about the church, what they have going on in the area, his call into the ministry, etc….

After lunch, Cyndi went to Columbus (yes, for everyone “down south” I mean Columbus, Ohio NOT Columbus, Georgia. But, even though you are “down south,” I’m not “up north.” I’m from West Virginia. It has been called the Northernmost Southern state and the Southernmost Northern state.) and I came back to Berea. Grandpa and I went over and mowed grass at Uncle Doug’s farm. The weather was so nice. It was great to get out and enjoy God’s creation. We had a great time. I’m not sure what tomorrow holds, but I’m looking forward to it.

For those who care about our calendar over the next few weeks, here are some details:

We are going to the West Virginia Evangelism Conference on the 11th.

We will be at Faith Baptist Church on the 13th.

We’ll travel to Proctorville, OH on the 14th.

We’ll be there until the 17th when we leave for Cleveland, OH.

While in Cleveland, we are going to visit friends and the Creation Museum.

On the 20th, we travel to Columbus, OH.

On the 21st, we travel to Middletown, MD.

On the 24th, we’ll visit Gordonsville, VA.

On the 25th, we’ll be back in Richmond until the 27th.

We leave the US for Serbia on the evening of the 27th.

Trying Something New

I’m currently in Berea, WV typing this. Although, it won’t be posted right away (there is no internet access here), I’m going to blog over the next few days and hopefully have several posts to put up at once. I’ve never done anything like this before, but I hope it will allow me to blog, keep you informed, without being too disjointed. Over the next few weeks, let me know how you think it worked out.
