Long Ride Home…In The Rain

Today, I decided I wanted to ride a bit more on the way home.  So, I mapped out a route and went for it.  The ride went very well except for the rain storm that came up 1/2 way through the ride.  The last 10 miles were spent riding in a downpour.

C&O Canal Bike Ride

Cyndi and I went to visit her aunt and uncle in Maryland.  I needed to ride so I brought my bike.  They suggested I ride on the C&O Canal.  It ended up and was ok (it wasn’t paved and in fairly good shape.  I’d do it again next time we come up).  I took a few maps I found on the internet and put together so everyone could see where I rode.

My stats were:

Avg Speed: 16.6 mph
Total Distance: 35 miles
Time Riding: 2 hrs 9 min 9 sec

(click the image for a larger view).  I rode the red line along the river from Brunswick in the lower right to the end up by the big 180 degree bend in the upper left)

ARG! Mythbusters! Arg!

I’m watching Mythbusters tonight and they are testing the “put the car into reverse to stop” myth.  They totally miss it.

Their automatic had an interlock that prevented it.  But, I know that some automatics support this (see http://www.gt-legends.de/faq_en/q13.html)

The manual they used had a synchronized transmission.  Of course that won’t work…the synchronizers in the transmission are preventing the gears frm meshing.

I think they missed this one.

This guy doesn’g get the GPL

This guy doesn’t understand the GPL.  At about the 4 minute mark, he says “…this means third party developers can’t continue to charge for their products.”

The GPL doesn’t say you can’t charge.  It doesn’t say you must not charge.  It says that if you distribute, you must allow others to modify and/or distribute too.

Virginia, Gun Control, and Campus

Right after the VT shootings, I made this post where I talked about how to prevent future VT style attacks.  My main point was that students with a valid concealed carry permit should be allowed to carry on campus.  Cyndi was reading on FoxNews.com today and saw this article where a student group is proposing exactly the same thing.

 I, for one, vote yes!
