Greece

In this post , I mentioned we were going to Greece for a series of meetings.  We had a wonderful time of meeting people serving in our part of the world.  We also had an awesome time meeting people from the US that were there helping us out.

There is a whole set of pictures from our trip on our flickr page, but here are a few I wanted to show you here.

Mountain

This was the view behind our hotel type place (we stayed in bungalow type things.

Pool

This was the pool. We had some time to spend there relaxing and staying cool (it was way way hot while we were there).

Cyndi and I had a chance to go out one evening. We took a taxi into town and had sandwiches while we looked at the bay/sea type place.

We are going to the US!

Yep…you read that right. We are going to visit the good old US of A on Monday! How can that be, you ask!? Well, legally an embassy is considered to be part of the sending country and not the host country. And why do we get to do this you ask? Well, I forgot my passport in my pocket when we returned from Greece and it got washed (I’ll post some pictures later).

I talked to the Embassy today and they told me I needed to get a new one. ARG! This means a trip to the Embassy in Belgrade (the US). Too bad we can’t get reese cups or oreos while we are there!

Where is Lydia?

If I had felt better, I would have bought a moca here for sure (I really miss those and haven’t been able to make one yet.  Although someone suggested that I simply filter the coffee.  What an idea!)

Things I wish I had known

If you pay your electric bill by the 15th (I think) you get a discount on your next bill
The first bill would amount to 900 RSD (about 17USD or so)
If you shop at Merkator on Tuesday and spend > 1500RSD, you get a coupon to use the next Tuesday
That coupon is worth 10% off
Our first land-line phone bill would amount to 89 RSD (< 2USD)
Keep your receipts (especially with the little stamp on it)

I wish I could….

…remember the name of this cpmany that tried this bid for gas thing way back when I was in college.  Cyndi and I were married (so I’m sure it was after 1999).  The way it worked was you signed up for an account, then bid for x number of gal. of gas at x price.  If you won, you could go pump that many gallons of gas at the station, swipe your card with them (I think), and go.  I forget how you got the difference back.  And I remember you were hit with a penalty if you went over your gal. amount by a certain amount.  We did it 2 or 3 times before the service went kaput like so many other things did with the bubble burst.  Anway, if you want to pay to try and hedge your gas prices, check out this site:
