Rest, Relaxation, and Refreshing

Cyndi and I have spent the last two months in orientation getting ready for our overseas journey. Our brains have been crammed full of information on culture shock, adjusting to life overseas, being safe, etc…. We were in session from 8am to 3pm (and sometimes 5pm) and on some Saturdays even. We finished that up last Wednesday and left for West Virginia. So far, this trip has been very relaxing.

On Sunday, we drove to Williamstown to Williams Creek Baptist Church where I attended while in High School (although then, it was called First Southern Fellowship). Today, we met with the pastor of Faith Baptist Church in West Union to talk about this weekend. The pastor there, Jim, is such a nice guy. We had a great time talking to him, learning about the church, what they have going on in the area, his call into the ministry, etc….

After lunch, Cyndi went to Columbus (yes, for everyone “down south” I mean Columbus, Ohio NOT Columbus, Georgia. But, even though you are “down south,” I’m not “up north.” I’m from West Virginia. It has been called the Northernmost Southern state and the Southernmost Northern state.) and I came back to Berea. Grandpa and I went over and mowed grass at Uncle Doug’s farm. The weather was so nice. It was great to get out and enjoy God’s creation. We had a great time. I’m not sure what tomorrow holds, but I’m looking forward to it.

For those who care about our calendar over the next few weeks, here are some details:

We are going to the West Virginia Evangelism Conference on the 11th.

We will be at Faith Baptist Church on the 13th.

We’ll travel to Proctorville, OH on the 14th.

We’ll be there until the 17th when we leave for Cleveland, OH.

While in Cleveland, we are going to visit friends and the Creation Museum.

On the 20th, we travel to Columbus, OH.

On the 21st, we travel to Middletown, MD.

On the 24th, we’ll visit Gordonsville, VA.

On the 25th, we’ll be back in Richmond until the 27th.

We leave the US for Serbia on the evening of the 27th.

Trying Something New

I’m currently in Berea, WV typing this. Although, it won’t be posted right away (there is no internet access here), I’m going to blog over the next few days and hopefully have several posts to put up at once. I’ve never done anything like this before, but I hope it will allow me to blog, keep you informed, without being too disjointed. Over the next few weeks, let me know how you think it worked out.

Today we…

Today we started by taking a look at the mower the brke while we were mowing Uncle Doug’s place. Turns out that the entire bearing unit had sheared off the mower deck. So, we took that off and set it asside…we figure we can order a replacement at Marietta Ignition. After that, we started mowing the field next to the house (the horses used to be there, but they went up to the farm). Well, after about 30 minutes, the mower broke so we spent some time working on that. It turned out that the bolt holding the middle blade to the shaft wouldn’t tighten up. We looked around for a replacement, but didn’t find one. It was just about lunchtime, so we took a break and eat.

After lunch, we made a trip to Harrisville. We got some replacement bolts (they proved to be too long, but that is for another time), gas, sugar (to make food for the bees), and grass seed. We spent the afternoon discing up the field. Once that was done, we sowed some grass seed in it and drug it to cover the seed up. We figured it was going to rain tomorrow so we can spend the day working on the mower.

I talked to Cyndi a few times. I’m currently trying to get some new glasses before we head overseas. I didn’t get that done before we left Richmond and that is turining into a hassle. We are also looking at buying a cell phone before we leave here (I’d like a camera phone with mp3 player that will work via wifi to get this slick program to work on the phone).

I don’t know what we are going to do tomorrow. We need to work on the mower. I’m sure there is also several other things we need to do, but I don’t know what that is right now. I’ll write more tomorrow morning and evening.s

Finished

Well, Cyndi and I finished with our overseas training yesterday.  We had spent 8 weeks with others who were also being trained to go overseas.  It was a bittersweet time.  We were ready to leave and be done with training yet we needed much more time to get to know people.

We are currently at a hotel and don’t have time to post pictures.  I’ll take some time tomorrow morning to upload a few and post them (we’ll also post some more too).

Hotel Speed

Cyndi and I are staying at the Country Club Motor Lodge in fairmont, WV tonight.  They have free WiFi (go for them).  So far, it seems fairly fast.  Here is a report from DSLReports.com:

The Image Was Removed

[Update 22 Dec 2012 07:43] The image was bad.  I’ve updated the page; however, I think the info was long gone.

Wow!

Well, our training is finally over. Today is our “graduation” of sorts.

If you are in the Richmond area and want to swing by the ILC, come on out. It starts at 2pm. We’ll post pictures and more later this evening.
