Politics or Church and Free Speech

I debated where to put this (politics or church) but in the end, I decided on politics (I’ll try and reserve the church category for items related to my church).

Before I go on, I want to be clear by stating that I don’t know anything about what the church mentioned in the article believes.  They could be way out in left field for all I know.  I’m purely posting on their current situation.

Spirit One Christian Center has come under attack by the IRS.  The IRS claims they are involved in political activities.  The church says they are simply speaking out on a moral issue of the day.  That moral issue happens to be abortion.  And Wichita, where the church is located, happens to be home to a notorious abortionist…George Tiller (for more information on him check out Operation Rescue and this WND article ).

Based on what I have read in this article ,  I happen to think the IRS is way out of line.  Someone there has decided this church needs to be silenced.  This is clearly a violation of the First Amendment (freedom of speech and freedom of religion) if I have ever seen it.  This is the type of thing the 1st Amendment was made to protect….not hideous art work or pornography.  The church has a clear right to speak out on the issue (they do have a clear right but they also have a higher duty to God and MUST speak out on the issue).

Let’s pray for our brothers and sisters as they are under attack by the IRS.

Long Ride Home…In The Rain

Today, I decided I wanted to ride a bit more on the way home.  So, I mapped out a route and went for it.  The ride went very well except for the rain storm that came up 1/2 way through the ride.  The last 10 miles were spent riding in a downpour.

C&O Canal Bike Ride

Cyndi and I went to visit her aunt and uncle in Maryland.  I needed to ride so I brought my bike.  They suggested I ride on the C&O Canal.  It ended up and was ok (it wasn’t paved and in fairly good shape.  I’d do it again next time we come up).  I took a few maps I found on the internet and put together so everyone could see where I rode.

My stats were:

Avg Speed: 16.6 mph
Total Distance: 35 miles
Time Riding: 2 hrs 9 min 9 sec

(click the image for a larger view).  I rode the red line along the river from Brunswick in the lower right to the end up by the big 180 degree bend in the upper left)

ARG! Mythbusters! Arg!

I’m watching Mythbusters tonight and they are testing the “put the car into reverse to stop” myth.  They totally miss it.

Their automatic had an interlock that prevented it.  But, I know that some automatics support this (see http://www.gt-legends.de/faq_en/q13.html)

The manual they used had a synchronized transmission.  Of course that won’t work…the synchronizers in the transmission are preventing the gears frm meshing.

I think they missed this one.

This guy doesn’g get the GPL

This guy doesn’t understand the GPL.  At about the 4 minute mark, he says “…this means third party developers can’t continue to charge for their products.”

The GPL doesn’t say you can’t charge.  It doesn’t say you must not charge.  It says that if you distribute, you must allow others to modify and/or distribute too.

Virginia, Gun Control, and Campus

Right after the VT shootings, I made this post where I talked about how to prevent future VT style attacks.  My main point was that students with a valid concealed carry permit should be allowed to carry on campus.  Cyndi was reading on FoxNews.com today and saw this article where a student group is proposing exactly the same thing.

 I, for one, vote yes!
