They want Peace

I read thisnews story in the examiner today talking about the numbers of students in the balkans desiring peace.

From the article:

In Serbia 90% of students polled stated that “war shall never be the choice of the Serbian people with its neighbors and war should only be used as a last resource.” 95% support Serbia to become a part of EU and they strongly believe that if all Balkan nations became part of the EU problems of ethnic division would disappear.  They also believe that the economy would flourish in the Balkans.

In Albania 97% of students support a peaceful solution in the matters of Kosovo, Montenegro and Macedonia. 100% support Albania joining the EU.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, 85% support a peaceful solution with Serbians in any dispute over land and other problems.  93% support their country to become a member of the EU.

In Kosovo, 95% of students are against the war with Serbia and prefer peace instead.  99% support Kosovo to become an EU member. 100% support Kosovo independence.

In Macedonia, the poll showed 100% support peace among ethnic groups and 100% support their country to become a member of the EU.

Apple Pie

Cyndi made apple pie yesterday.  I’m going to have some for breakfast.  Note, these pictures were from another apple pie she made…not this one.  But, OF COURSE, I ate it the standard way (in a bowl with sugar and milk).

Ok..before you give me too much flack about this, in a bowl with milk and extra sugar is the ONLY way to eat apple pie.  So, have you tried it?  I didn’t think so.  Just like frozen oreos, don’t knock it until you try it.  Although, last night I did put ice cream on it (it was hot and I didn’t want to have hot milk on my pie…..)

Harvesting Honey

I saw this video and thought of my Uncle Don and Dan who keep bees.  I thought they might be interested in this guys method of harvesting honey…..

Math Geeks — What do you Think?

 Ok, here’s the situation:

Say you have a hot water tank (boiler here) that holds 80 liters of water.  You want to heat that water to 70 degrees C.  Assume the temp of the water in the tank (and the incoming water) is room temperature–20 deg celcius.  Also assume that during the day, electric costs 4 times what it does at night.

Now, is it better to heat all 80 liters of water at night (with cheap electric) or are you better off to heat it a bit at a time as it comes into the tank when you use it?  Assume 90% of the hot water usage is during the expensive time.

You’ll have to look up the formulas as I don’t have them handy right now (sorry).  My hypothesis is that it will be cheaper to heat the water at night all at once instead of during the day time as you use it.  Why?  Just because 1 cubic cm of water ALWAYS takes the same amount of energy to heat it up a given number of degrees.  But, I could be wrong.  What do you think?

Terminator Salvation

A few friends and I went to see Terminator Salvation yesterday.  For a 4th, it was good.  It seemed like they made a few things force fit the rest of the story.  All in all, it was ok though.
